The app and local data

Taipale Marine (com.taipaleitsolutions.marine) displays marine and inland-water conditions and includes an anchor watch. The vessel profile, name and dimensions, favourites, units, preferences and local feature state are stored on the device. Core use does not require a Taipale account.

Location, anchor watch and notifications

Location is used to display the vessel on a map, estimate speed and direction, retrieve nearby information and monitor anchor drift. Device permissions are requested for location and notifications. When you start anchor watch, location may also be used in the background or with the screen off. Stop the watch and revoke permissions in device settings when you do not wish to use it.

Map, weather and marine services

When online, the app retrieves maps and conditions from sources such as the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, National Land Survey, Fintraffic/Digitraffic, OpenStreetMap, OpenSeaMap and other configured basemap providers. A request may contain your location, the displayed map area or a map-tile identifier. Providers also receive ordinary request information such as your IP address. Use of these network services is therefore not described as wholly local. This implementation has no Taipale IT cloud service collecting vessel routes.

Optional cloud AI

The local skipper briefing can be generated on the device. If you explicitly enable cloud AI and supply an API key, the app sends information needed for a briefing to Google Gemini: vessel name, type and draft, water-body name and type, weather and wind observations, and the number of nearby navigational-aid defects. Google also receives technical request information. Cloud mode is off by default and is subject to the terms and privacy policy of the Google API service you use. Do not put unnecessary personal information in the vessel name. Disabling cloud mode stops new requests; Google’s terms govern data already sent. Google privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Advertising, retention and deletion

The current implementation has no advertising networks or user analytics. Local data remains until you remove it in the app, clear app data or uninstall. Also remove exported files and revoke unnecessary location permissions. Device backups and requests already sent to external services are not automatically erased by local deletion.

Support requests, your rights and contact

If you send a support request, Taipale IT processes your contact details and message to respond. Depending on the request, processing is based on performing a contract or legitimate interests. Support messages are retained for as long as handling the matter or the customer relationship requires, and are then deleted or anonymised. The company policy describes the technical services used for email and this website. You may request access, rectification, erasure or restriction of personal data held by Taipale IT, and object to processing as provided by applicable law. Data stored only on your own device is managed through the app or device settings.
